Support the Wāhine Collective
Over the course of six months, the listening campaign led by Wāhine Collective leaders has shown what happens when wāhine are truly listened to, when they are given the opportunity to lead, and build people power. What has emerged is more than participation, it is a desire to embark on their journey to understanding the methodology of community organising. To build powerful wāhine institutions that will sustain a wāhine's movement here in Auckland, we must invest in wāhine and their communities across Auckland.
Te Ohu Tāmaki Community Alliance and our community organisers are deeply committed to making community organising accessible to all wāhine. The Wāhine Collective and Training Institute is designed as an open door for every wāhine who is ready to embark on her journey to building serious people power.
Training wāhine leaders in community organising requires intentional mentorship, development and ongoing support. We are purposeful in creating a programme where wāhine are supported with the right tools to build power.
If we are serious about addressing the social injustices and systemic barriers that impact wāhine, we must invest in equipping wāhine leaders with the skills to bring people and institutions together, so that they are powerful enough to create the change they want to see. This can only happen if we continue to train and develop wāhine leaders across all sectors, grounded in a shared theory of change and guided by Te Ohu's community organising methodology.
Building people power is building leaders. If we are not building leaders, we cannot build people power.
The wāhine are ready. The wāhine collective movement is growing. The only question is whether we have the resources to meet this moment.
If you want to support the Wāhine Collective Power Network that will:
